Celebrities Fight Prostate Cancer at Fourth Annual Know Your Score Golf Tournament and Gala
Washington, D.C. (June 15, 2011) – The fourth annual Know Your Score Golf Tournament and Gala, benefitting ZERO — The Project to End Prostate Cancer, will take place on Saturday, August 27 at Pawley's Plantation Golf & Country Club in Myrtle Beach. The tournament and gala feature an exciting lineup of celebrity participants and a live "locker room chat" with sports icons.
"Prostate cancer affects one in six men, including many sports and entertainment celebrities," said Heath Carter, ZERO's Director of Marketing and Communications. "We are thankful that so many of these individuals have pledged their support to the Know Your Score campaign and are dedicated to finding a cure."
Celebrities such as Know Your Score's host and NBA All Star Gus Williams, NFL Hall of Famer Lynn Swann, MLB veteran Tony Womack, and many more sports and entertainment stars will compete in the golf tournament and a live "locker room chat" — an open Q&A with some of sports' greatest performers.
With a large number of male visitors to area golf courses, the Myrtle Beach community recognized an opportunity to reach out to this audience about a disease that greatly impacts them. With the help of ZERO — The Project to End Prostate Cancer and the many celebrities committed to the cause, Know Your Score raises money for research and educates men on the importance of early detection of prostate cancer.
All proceeds from Know Your Score® Golf Tournament and Gala go directly to the fight against prostate cancer by funding health screenings, promoting education and awareness, and enabling research that will lead to the cure.
The following sports and entertainment celebrities are taking part in Know Your Score:
Brevin Knight; Tony Womack; Gus Williams; Dan Hampton; Bill Gramatica; Mitch Laurance; Thad Daber; Ewa Laurance; Jim Huber; Bob Harris; Lynn Swann; Artis Gilmore; Meadowlark Lemon; Sam Jones; Doug Flynn; Gary Mule Deer; Andre Reed; and Junior Bridgeman.

About ZERO — The Project to End Prostate Cancer (www.zerocancer.org)
At ZERO, we commit ourselves not only to reduce prostate cancer or alleviate the pain from the disease, but also to end it. We see a future where all men who have been diagnosed with prostate cancer will be cured or manage their illness with good quality of life; with the support they need to minimize physical and emotional suffering, and to cope effectively throughout their cancer journey. To accomplish our goal, we provide comprehensive treatment information to patients, education to those at risk and conduct free prostate cancer testing throughout the country. We increase research funds from the federal government to find new treatments and we fund local grants to end the disease.
